NSW: Dangerous ferry navigation killed fisherman, court told

A jury's been told that dangerous navigation by a Sydney harbour ferry master caused
the death of a fisherman whose dinghy was struck by the vessel.

In the crown's opening address today .. JOSE CRESPO said the fisherman's son will give
evidence that he stood up and waved his hand around when he saw the ferry approaching
them at a "tremendous speed".

RiverCat ferry master EZRA HILKIAH has pleaded not guilty in the NSW District Court
to a charge of dangerous navigation occasioning the death of 72-year-old PETER KARATASAS.

The Dawn Fraser RiverCat hit Mr KARATASAS' dinghy near Luna Park in the early hours
of January 5 last year.

The trial is continuing.
