Fed: Latham cleared on Liverpool financial record

The man who's investigated the affairs of Liverpool City Council has cleared Opposition
Leader MARK LATHAM of financial mismanagement during his time as mayor.

The Australian Financial Review reports Labor has produced a letter from the man who
investigated the Sydney council's financial affairs, MAURICE DALY.

In the letter to Labor Senate leader JOHN FAULKNER, Mr DALY says he's received no evidence
of improper financial management between 1988 and 1995.

His final report into Liverpool Council's collapsed $800 million Oasis project links
a $15.4 million deficit at the council in the mid-1990s to Mr LATHAM'S term as Mayor.

But Mr DALY has cleared Mr LATHAM of financial mismanagement.

He's made 59 adverse findings but none relate to the period between 1991 to 1994 --
the time that Mr LATHAM was mayor.
