Qld: Jockeying starts for ministers' seats

BRISBANE, Aug 29 AAP - Jockeying has begun in the Labor Party for seats to be leftvacant with the retirement of three Beattie government ministers at the next election.
A Labor insider said the toughest showdown was expected to be in Employment MinisterMatt Foley's south-west Brisbane seat of Yeerongpilly.
Queensland Council of Unions president Dave Harrison, a key figure in the party's Leftfaction, and Labor organiser Simon Finn are set to do battle to replace Mr Foley.
Labor Party organiser Andrew Fraser is being tipped to win preselection for HealthMinister Wendy Edmond's inner-Brisbane seat of Mt Coot-tha.
Cairns City councillor Jason O'Brien appears to have early support in the north Queenslandseat of Cook, replacing Transport Minister Steve Bredhauer.
While a date has yet to be set for Labor's plebiscites, nominations are expected toopen on September 8 and close on September 19 for a grassroots ballot in all three seatson October 13.
Labor state secretary Cameron Milner told AAP today he anticipated "considerable interest"
in the seats.
"I'm looking forward to working with high-quality candidates with a strong local profile,"
Mr Milner said.
